FIRST COMMAND Posted by Steve Bates

Date ;late 1973 or early 1974.  Garry Honour would confirm.
I was on duty in the Ops office at Jacksons, Midday rush. On the ground one F27, destination Rabaul, fully loaded with pax, First Officer and two cabin Crew. Problem, no Captain. No one available on reserve. Even Dick Glassey and Jim Perry were flying. Got in touch with Dick about G D Honour who had completed his Command check with Jim Perry that morning. Jim raced up to DCA to finalise the paper work. Traffic got hold of Garry who was wandering around the terminal in T shirt shorts and thongs looking very touristy. I often wonder what the passengers thought watching this "tourist" checking the Balus before jumping into the left hand seat flying them to Rabaul.
